Matthias Glander studied with Hans Radünz at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Musik, continuing his studies from 1981 to 1985 with Professor Ewald Koch and Oskar Michallik.

He joined the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Orchestra of the Berlin State opera house in 1983 and has been first solo clarinet with this orchestra since 1985. He also played many performances and concerts as solo clarinet of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic under those conductors like Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, James Levine, Kurt Sanderling, Giuseppe Sinopoli or Günter Wand.

He has appeared as soloist with renowned orchestras under conductors as Otmar Suitner, Sir Jehudi Menuhin, Daniel Barenboim or Sebastian Weigle from Berlin up to Tokyo. He also as chamber musician has shared a concert platform with names like Daniel Barenboim and Yo-Yo Ma or Lang lang in Berlin, Paris, or Jerusalem and played in various chamber music groups worldwide. With his famos Trio Apollon, he released a lot of CDs. The last production „Wasserspiele“ WARNER CLASSICS got the ECHO KLASSIK 2006 Award with music from Francaix, Poulenc, Enescu, Kurtág und Matthus as best chamber music interpretaion.

Glander is yearly teaching the woodwind section of the “West-Eastern-Divan-Orchestra” since 1999, begin of the project in Weimar and since 2004 he is giving lessons as Professor of the Barenboim-Said-Fundation in Seville.
